downloading woes
Dec. 16th, 2007 04:34 pmWoe! My torrents of Dexter and Chuck aren't downloaded yet! *MOURNS*
-I'm really liking Chuck. I watched up to ep. 4 and I like the concept and character dynamics and the lightheartedness a lot.... it reminds me a bit in some ways of Alias season 1, back when Sydney was dealing with bad guys and then trying to make it to school on time, which was many kinds of awesome (and was disposed of in season two, in favor of Drama.) Also Sarah is so! very! adorable! when she's fake girlfriending and when she's being threatened so Chuck will do something.
-Dexter is a show I don't know how to feel about. I do feel sympathetic towards Dexter the Sociopathic Killer, but at the same time I'm sort of completely NOT attracted to the bloodiness of the show. I don't want torture porn- that's not good and has always seemed to me that it's a weak excuse for writers not being able to build suspense, not to mention it's just revolting. (And when Jack Bauer was nearly tortured to death and then bit out somebody's jugular, I stopped watching 24.) I know that on Dexter there's probably a lot of interesting camera work and editing to show that emotional disconnect that Dexter experiences and is highly impressionistic, so I am intrigued by that device, in a meta-ish sort of way, and should probably stretch my nearly non-existent film study skills and watch how the shots are composed and what effect that has. I think that the show is sort of an examination of handicaps, though- especially the ways that humanity itself can be handicapped.
I'm thinking about watching the pilot of Six Feet Under now, but I should probably go see if Real Life has anything that needs attention.

Date: 2008-02-04 04:15 am (UTC)Backtrack to August, when I read the first book for the firs time, and hadn't seen the TV show yet. I read the whole thing with the alternating thoughts of "WTF this is so so so messed up" and "WTF this is so brilliant," all with a nice top layer of Must Keep Reading.
Now, it's all I can do to keep my mouth shut around my office about writing FANFIC for the damn thing.
