Alright, I'm writing Gene/Donna fic. What term of endearment do you think Gene would use for Donna? "My girl/darling girl" or something? I don't know, he's very... unique in his nicknames, and most of them have some sort of barb in them, and I just don't know what would fit. And sound like I wasn't about to have a Brit-picker leap for my throat. Somebody help and suggest something?

(I love Brit-pickers by the way. I do. I need to know these things for when I become a British citizen when I grow up- yes, shut up, I know, a girl can dream.)

♥ ♥

Not that I in any way know how to please Brit-pickers, but my first thought is that it'd be some remark about how she's ginger, and then she might even get annoyed about it if it's something like "scarlet girl" because that is much too close to "scarlet woman" for her tastes.

Also: LJ cuts off this userpic keyword so that instead of "the ultimate spacetime couple" it's "the ultimate spacetime COUP." COINCIDENCE? OR CLAIRVOYANCE?

I think it is a case of brilliant double meanings!

Hmm, I'm not sure how "scarlet girl" particularly flows here but i DO like the idea of going somewhere with the ginger. He'd get a kick out of her reaction. :P

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] ninamazing that he'd probably tease her about her delightful gingerness. Plus, Donna is assertive and strong-willed, so he'd probably tease her about that- your ladyship or something. I can see their banter now, and it's hilarious.

Can't quite think of what would be a "pet" name between them, though... Gene would probably die of embarassment if one ever got out. XD

Isn't it hilariously delightful? I love the idea of the two of them. And for some reason in my head right now I tend to write them from Gene's perspective, and he just thinks he's being eminently reasonable and genial, always. But Donna gives just as good as he does, and that is why they are so brilliantly matched.

The "your ladyship" one- that's a good suggestion, thanks!

Wel hai thar :D
My pitiful suggestions: 'Ginge'/'Gingerbread'/'Ginger Winger' I've heard more than once/ and this one's a bit horrible but has a DW link: 'Doctor' (Ginger Pubes=GP= Doctor)
My polite question is: can I friend you? I've never ever seen this pairing and if I lose you I may weep.
And I'll happily Brit-pick should you ever need it (UK citizen here) :)
Thanks!
Schemer X

Oh heavens that GP one might be the worst thing I've ever heard today. *trots off to find the big bottle of brain bleach* Ah, that's better. but yes, Gingerbread kind of works! I like that, I'll see how it fits. :)

Please friend me! I actually found this pairing after someone referred me to [livejournal.com profile] donna_gene and I already posted a fic and some graphics over there. It's even better that you could Brit-pick for me! Out of curiosity, where in the UK do you live? I lived in London last summer when I studied abroad and travelled around a little bit, I'm really hoping to move back.

Nice to meet you!

Nice to meet you too :)
Sorry about the brain bleaching!
I'm glad you like the UK; I love it. I'm in Kent, South-Eastern England, at the moment, but I'll be going to back to Berkshire in Autumn, which is the other side of London.
Where in the world are you?

Oh, neat, it sounds like you live in some really great places. I'm guessing you maybe go to the University of Reading? I want to go there, at least- between their MA in Book Design and their English MA it just makes me drool. I live in Georgia in the southeastern US; I just graduated university and really really want to go back for my Master's. So right now I'm trying to figure out if I can get funding and accepted in any postgrad programmes in the UK. It looks like there are some really good ones in Victorian Studies and English Lit, which is my focus. Also wouldn't mind doing something with my film minor, but who knows.

I do go there :D And I love it, I'd highly recommend the English department. I'm doing a joint English Literature and Film & Theatre BA right now--again, the Film & Theatre department is a lot of fun.
So what are you up to in the meantime?

Awesome, awesome.

For right now I'm just trying to find a proper job and save some money for traveling and moving; I worked as an editor on several student publications and a professor's book up until I graduated, and now that that's all suddenly gone away my life is rather dull. I'm currently working as a medical records manager in a doctor's office, which pays my bills, but I'm really looking to get involved with a company or an advertising firm in some sort of writing/editing/production capacity. But nobody's hiring right now, which is yet another reason I want to move out of this country.

Are you working now? What do you want to do with your degree?
