Thea Gilmore - Strange Communion
Dec. 3rd, 2009 11:12 am
This year, Thea Gilmore has graced us with more than one album- Recorded Delivery in the spring, a collection of hits, and now this holiday season, Strange Communion. Strange Communion is a delightful collection of seasonal songs, both original and covers, but not the standard Christmas carols; rather, this is a hymn to the themes of the Christmas: death and rebirth, hope and faith, warmth in the midst of a cold winter. Whether she is singing about "drunk relations telling dirty jokes... me missing you again, that'll be Christmas" or the solemn but beautiful Sol Invictus with a choir behind her, the thoughtfulness and poetry of this album shine through.
