Initial thoughts on the Ashes to Ashes finale.

-Anybody else feel weird that on the day the Doctor and Rose were in London investigating people the Wire stealing faces, wee!Gene Hunt was getting his blown off? No? Just me, then?

-I am really not sure why Gene couldn't go into the Railway Arms Metaphysical Pub and move on to the next plane or whatever, but... okay. Poor man, lonely wanderer, oncoming storm, needs cuddles, etc.

-This is what I believe is on the inside of the Railway Arms, you cannot convince me otherwise:

-Alex! Oh, sweetie. I am trying to decide whether that moment where she is worried about leaving Molly while holding the scarf was deeply understated or just lacking. However, I think this actually plays into the Supertheory fairly decently- Keats was promising Alex that he could let her see Molly again. However, clearly Keats only has power over the dead. The only way I can see for him to promise that is if both Alex and Molly were shot.

-Jimbo rhymes with Limbo. He also sounds like crows in the end when he is laughing; also, scarecrow marking Gene's grave.

-Shaz! Oh, I adore her. She kind of looked like she came from the nineties, what is fandom consensus on that?

-Ducklings, if you (1) know you are dead dead dead, and (2) see that a man in your afterlife is trying to compel you to get on an elevator that is red on the inside and going down, IT SHOULD BE FAIRLY OBVIOUS THAT YOU DO NOT GET ON.

-You know, I kind of don't hate at all the fact that the entire purpose of this world is to solve crimes and go to the pub.

-LOLLLLLLLLLLLLL @ "Where is my office! I want my iPhone!" boy at the end. Somehow, I don't think Gene is going to say, "Hello and welcome to the land of the dead, I will be facilitating you on your way to the next life!" because he is delightfully bloody-minded.

LOLOLOL INSIDE OF THE PUB!!! I also think that Molly is there underage drinking.

Also Shaz is from the 90's yes, as Oasis played.

Did you ever read [livejournal.com profile] montycrowley's Waltz at the Bar Dimensional (http://montycrowley.livejournal.com/9747.html)? Because, well, all metaphysical pubs are one.

Ohhhh that makes perfect sense. I was judging by her hair, really. I thought "What, Oasis wasn't in the eighties..." but didn't think farther than that.

Another thing I thought of, outside of the obviously-canon-is-that-he's-married-to-Donna thing, is that, wait, Gene WAS married, and now he realizes this is all the limbo he shaped... what the hell kind of woman did he marry? I mean, this is way beyond Alex wanting to shag that guy because she thought she was hallucinating everything.

well, gene died in 1953, so she was likely a traditional housewife. but i imagine, in his head, she was also a fox in the bedroom.

Yes, probably, although I was thinking more generally about his reaction- what kind of things do you think when you realize the woman you married, the woman who didn't want to remain married to you, was either imaginary or dead? I mean, the finale suggested that there was little in this world beyond what was there for police work, but clearly Gene had gone beyond even that, at least for a little while. It's a very interesting and complicated situation.

It WAS rushed. After three years of struggling to get back to her daughter Gene goes "eh, she'll be okay" and Alex is all "alright, walking into the light then!" Buuuuut I still subscribe to the Molly is dead theory, and I think that, if that is the case, Alex knows it on some level.
