She was diagnosed with skin cancer and had six months to live, five years ago. Every time I went on a trip I'd tell her to stick around until I got back, and she always did. For the past year or so she's been getting a bit slower, a bit more tired. Mum said she was fine yesterday afternoon, but Dad said she was sick all over the kitchen floor and pacing the house when he got home from work. I woke up to a text and a voicemail this morning saying that she was gone. She had had a seizure (and had probably had one yesterday before Dad got home) and it was time and Mum was at the vet waiting when they opened up this morning.

I'm always okay with people having their time to go; they have conclusions, beginnings and endings and a last page to turn. But pets are just a presence that doesn't really have a beginning or end, and it just never seems to make any sense that it's time to let them go. :(

IDK. I definitely find it harder to lose people. I've only ever had one pet and he's still alive, touch wood, even though he's really old, but I went with a friend of mine to get her cat put down and it was a genuinely traumatic experience. Pets are so special and it's horrible/weird to say goodbye.

It's hard with anyone you love. But I'm bad with emotions anyway, I don't feel anything when it comes to the things that upset most people, and I get upset about things that aren't the worst for everyone else. Just another one of those things my therapist kind of shrugs at me about.

So it was kind of out of nowhere and kind of a long time coming and I didn't get to see her one last time, and she was a wonderful dog and I'm going to miss her a lot.
