I was over Klaus since he killed Jenna; when you have a season's Big Bad to defeat, maybe don't drag him out for two additional seasons and make up stuff to keep him in town. Also I just don't get where they're going with this whole "omg Originals are the MOST POWERFUL EVER! Except for their dad who is ACTUALLY THE MOST POWERFUL. Besides the other first immortal dude who is the MOST POWERFUL OF ALL." It's like a bizarre immortal family tree and it's really losing its luster for me. Let's have something fresh, like Bonnie going evil because of too much Expression and flaying people tied to trees because her girlfriend was murder----- wait. That sounds familiar too... Hm.

(sorry, got a crazy-making headache so I took painkillers with booze, as one does, I might be rambling) suspense and drama in writing comes when you set boundaries for your world and then record the friction within those boundaries? E.g., if Original Daddy is the baddest bad ever, then STICK TO THAT and don't take him out in an almost non-event and then introduce SOMEONE EVEN WORSE ZOMG the next season, because nobody takes that shit seriously anymore. If Bonnie's struggle is using magic effectively enough to help people while dealing with the limits of nature and the spirit world, then don't give her a speshul new type of magic so she doesn't have to deal with rules anymore. If you have to do shit you're told while compelled, then don't have every other person learning special tricks to not get compelled. This is like Worldbuilding 101 and it's the sort of stuff that makes the world feel real, instead of something made up with a bunch of equally fake drama. Season 1 had a lot of genuine, character-driven drama that was based on these people hitting the limits of being human and being vampires. But last season and this season, it's feeling so artificial and even though the drama is nonstop it seems to be tedious and repetitive and dragging along.

And it really seems that when it comes to rule-ignoring, the Originals are kind of in the middle of it all.

YES YES YES. You totally hit the nail on the head. It's what I couldn't quite put my finger on besides thinking to myself "goddamn is everyone special now?" (I am clearly not great at analyzing things). I honestly wish they hadn't gone the Expression route with Bonnie, mostly because the first time she lost her use of magic it was dramatic, and we felt the loss of it as an audience for her, and for her role as a witch in the group. Then it came back and she was great. And then it was gone. And came back. And went away again... it became boring.

What sucks a lot about this season for me is that I love the idea of the Five, and wish they had threaded it in the storyline a little better, so it would have ended up that Jeremy was the real villain of the season (I mean how conflicted and nuts would that be for everyone). But after a single meditation session in the woods he's fine with not killing everyone he knows. UGH so much wasted potential in that arena.

I could even deal with Klaus and Stefan being the Baddies of last season, if they had been all-out Bad Guys. But at this point Stefan is a bit like Bonnie for me. He's good! No he isn't, he's Ripper Stefan! No, wait, he's okay again. OOPS NO HE'S A RIPPER ISN'T THAT THE DARNEDEST THING. The first time he succumbed to the bloodlust I was honestly afraid of him and what he would do because he was generally so easily in control. So when that was taken away, it was compelling to watch everything unfold.

But I definitely believe keeping the Originals around really messed everything up - and now there's no real way for Klaus to be gotten rid of because all the main characters will die. And there goes the show. They kind of wrote themselves into a hole with that one. (Unless this whole "cure" thing happens but I don't even want to speculate about how that's gonna go).

There's a reason this show is nicknamed Once Upon a Gay. I mean, mostly the dudes stand around looking pretty and pining after ladies while bitches get stuff done, and that needs to be dealt with. Emma and Regina need to look at how much they have in common, Mulan and Aurora just need to admit that Philip's a lost cause, I want Belle to have her happily-ever-after with Rumple but I don't see why that means she shouldn't have Ruby as her girlfriend too, and I'm PRETTY SURE Red and Snow have spent a night or three "huddled together for warmth", just saying.

Belle needs all the action. I fell for her so much harder than I already had, seeing her be a multilingual fighting detective in "The Outsider" and right now I am so fucking heartbroken that she's not that, that that girl is basically currently dead, it bothers me to an unhealthy degree. She is such an ass-kicking librarian and... well, I need her back. Writers need to get their shit together and get on that.
