After the randomness that was "The Last of the Time Lords" I felt the need to go back and watch "The End of the World", basically to see what the Face of Boe was actually up to, and if he was staring at Rose and Nine a lot, but it was difficult to tell. Anyway, the episode was well worth the watching, and wonderful.

So Rose starts out by wanting to go forward in time. This is an interesting contrast to Martha, who wanted to go back in time. Why? Also, Rose decided to go far, far into the future, so far she wouldn’t know what she was looking at. Martha wanted to see something she already knows.

Personally, I would have chosen to visit the past, too. Like Martha, I’m middle-class and have a university education. Is that relevant? Does it matter?

“You think you’re so impressive.”
“I am so impressive!”
“You wish!”
“Right, then, I know where we’re going.”

So the Doctor takes Rose to the end of the earth. That’s pretty rough… and she still stands up to it. And I love her for it.

“He’s blue.”
“Yeah!”
“’Kay.”

Also, this is where we’re first introduced to the Face of Boe, who we know to be Jack. He blinks impressively at them. Probably because he knows that the Doctor would take it oddly if he attempted to snog him. This episode was written by RTD and if he always knew this bit of information about Jack/Boe and didn’t just pull it out of his ass, then he didn’t do a great job of it. Maybe when I watch New Earth again I’ll see it.

“I bring you the gift of bodily salivas!”

I adore the iPod. This is what I carry around in my purse, clearly. Oh, Cassandra.

And here’s Rose suddenly realizing she ran off to the end of the earth with a stranger and freaking out a little. I’m so glad she didn’t realize that before it was too late to keep from becoming the doctor’s companion. I would have; this is maybe why I am so stuck at home.

“My name’s Rose, that’s a.. sort of plant. We might be related. I’m talking to a twig.”

And the wonderful pair of them. The Doctor cracking jokes about the Deep South (first this, and then on to the grits- RTD, let’s talk, k? Stop dissing my region.) and Rose demanding to know who he is. I love that she stands up to him without a second thought. Yes, Martha demanded to know who he was and where he came from too, but in a far more passive-agressive way.

I kind of love how the Steward has a mug with a turtle on it? Which of the staff went without coffee that day, d’you think?

“…and your wife? Partner? Concubine? Prostitute?”
“Whatever I am, it must be invisible, d’ya mind? Tell you what, you two go and… pollinate, and I’m going to catch up with the family, quick word with Michael Jackson.”
“Don’t start any fights. Jade, I’m all yours.”
“And I want you home by midnight!”

So with all this stuff about Platform One and The Corporation, this is getting Bad Wolf vibes. Probably all owned by the same company.

“I was on another ship once they said was unsinkable. Ended up clinging to an iceberg. Wasn’t half cold.”

OMG WE NEED A NINE AND TEN MEETUP. FOR REAL.

A pretty shot, and pretty music. Life is good. And also about to burn.

Cassandra talks about the Los Angeles Crevasse. I am certain this is a Buffy reference. Sunnydale imploded, and then LA fell in with it.

“I rather die than live like you, a bitchy trampoline.”
Well between that and bouncy castles, we’re all good.

Jade sympathises with the Doctor, for being the last of his species. The Doctor took Rose to the end of the world, to where she was the last of her species. I can’t think of any better way for Rose to quickly understand the Doctor, and what makes him the way he is. Did Martha ever get anything like that? I'm not sure the Doctor ever thought quite that much about it.

Rose gets dragged off. Oh, the beginning of good times. Really, she is more talented than anyone I know for getting grabbed! How is one girl so very, very lucky!?

Russell, I adore you far too much for ending the world on this note. I still am incredibly amused by this. Are you making the point you appear to be by repeatedly associating the end of the world with pop music?

“Oh, well, it would be you.”

So I sort of want a Repeated Meem as a pet. I’d like a whole bunch of them. Having ideas wandering around outside my head might be fun.

So Cassandra was going to arrange a hostage situation with herself as a victim. My type of woman.
“What are you going to do, moisturize me?”
“With ACID!”

Rose is pretty. And avoiding burning up.

He’s pissed and deducing. Nine, I miss you and your moods. You need to come back and have fantastic chemistry with Ten.

“You’re creaking.” And going splodey! Still, Rose argues that she should be saved. That may be one of the most amazing thing about Rose: she has so much mercy and grace. Even when somebody doesn’t deserve it, even when somebody has tried to hurt and kill her and people she loves, she still wants to save them. I wonder what she would have thought of the Master? The Doctor wanted to save him, and cried over him when he died; I think that Rose would have understood that, and knelt there on the floor to cry with him.

Nine. Rose. Face of Boe. I wonder what Jack’s thinking? He gets to see Rose again, and gets to see the Doctor, but can’t say anything. After so many years. WOE.

Rose ponders.

She watches her planet end, and he holds her hand. AW!
…and then takes her back to show her the earth still has a few more years left in her. From the very beginning, he’s so sweet to her. He watches her and makes sure she’s okay. I didn’t appreciate that until I saw how he didn’t do that with Martha… how he doesn’t even think to look at her even when she’s saving his life, or if her family is in danger. Rose/Doctor = OTP, clearly.

“Before I get back in that box, chips it is, and you can pay.”

And that is the face we all love. I must say, I realy like the colouring of this ep. I just capped it and was anticipating some photoshopping, but I didn't feel any was needed. I really did love this ep, and it makes such an interesting contrast to season three. The Doctor left Rose on her own for a great deal of this episode. running of with Jade, while he stuck pretty close to Martha in The Shakespeare Code. But in the end, the Doctor ends up paying far more attention to Rose than Martha.

How do you conclude a picspam? I don't know.

I want chips.

That's because he did pull it out of his ass. Nothing that random could ever be planned.

Very cute picspam though. :)

This is so very cute. And maybe it's just me, but when you said Woe in relation to Jack, my mind jumped back to Boe and I giggled like mad.

You know, this is the very first thing I thought of after the JackBoe revelation (after OMGWTFBBQ, of course). That he was not only going to get to see Nine & Rose (and later Ten & Rose, of course) again, but he was going to get to see them at the very beginning, their FIRST trip together ♥

I totally watched The End of the World just yesterday (hadn't seen it in AGES) and I had a mini-flip out when the face of Boe came in, I'm still all WTFJACKBUHUH? It freaks me out to no end to think of poor lovely Jack living 5 billion years (all alone!) and turning into... A Giant Head, somewhere along the way. Although, is "Face of Boe" as a nickname an insight into what Jack's real name might be? That part is rather interesting to me.

I've been rewatching alot of Series 1 recently and I forgot how much I miss Nine. As much as I love David Tennant as Ten, Chris as Nine was something special and completely different although still total <3 .

(Also, I'm from Alabama and I thought the South cracks were pretty funny. Grits! It amuses me that the BBC had to have an explanation of what grits were on their Fact File for Last of the Time Lords, because I mean, duh everyone should know what they are, obviously! ;D)

you say that, but most americans have no idea what a jumper is. or biscuits. i would have thought that was obvious, too. we all have different slang, and i'm sure NO ONE else would be able to understand our Aussie language

Lol, it was a joke, I know not everyone knows what grits are. Most Americans not in the South don't even know what grits are. My best friend is from Ohio and she's like, Ew wtf is that stuff?

(although, I do know what jumpers and biscuits are. Hooray for Harry Potter! :D)

Ooh, I hadn't been thinking about that! I had just been melancholy over how he has to hang around for five billion years and then some. Wait, everybody was saying that the Face of Boe organized the earth-splodey-party... I wonder if he knew the Doctor was going to show up? IT'S ALL SUCH A CONUNDRUM. DID YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT THIS, RUSSELL?

Well, the Doctor turned into a giant head too when the Master aged him. *shrugs* Dear God, I just started a thread of ancient-bighead-slash, didn't I?

Grits! It amuses me that the BBC had to have an explanation of what grits were on their Fact File for Last of the Time Lords.
HAH, yes, me too. I mean, I know they're not precisely an internationally-acclaimed food, but STILL. If I talked about British slang for food to anyone I know they'd be completely confused.
BBC: Lalalalala GRITS. Deep South! Mwahah!
Me: (to BBC) Heeeeyy, watch it! I kind of like Georgia! (to Georgia) Let me go, plzkthx?
Georgia: No, you're my bitch, you're staying here.
That's my life, I swear. But hey, it's nice to have a Doctor Who fan around from Alabama. We can make fun of Mississippi together. *hides Alabama jokes* :P

Mississippi is SO worse than Alabama! (although I will admit Georgia is better than us, it does have Atlanta and COOL things like Six Flags)

Haha, that's my life too, except it's AL doing that. I swear I'm never going to escape it! (well, hopefully in 2 years when I graduate college I'll be saying sayonara for good, but who knows)

Good God, are we actually twins? Me = 18-sophomore-two years til graduation and moving Scotland. *twiddles thumbs* I'll miss the literature classes but otherwise, it can't come soon enough.

Yeah, Six Flags is pretty cool. I need to go there, haven't gone there in years, which is weird since I live pretty nearby it.

I met a guy from London the other day. It kind of made my weekend. He was cute. He also said I'll be able to get a job in the UK. Hooray!

Haha, indeed. I don't know where I want to move yet, just somewhere Not Alabama. I'm looking at Florida State for graduate school as my #1 atm, but I'm probably going to go work somewhere first to save up some money for it. I would love to live in Europe (not just Britain but perhaps France, I have a bit of working knowledge of French and am minoring in it to try and become at least semi-fluent by the time I leave college), but I'm afraid my mom might have a heart attack and die if I ever lived more than 45 minutes away from her, or either run my phone bill up ridiculously high calling all the time.

I really want to go to Six Flags sometime this summer, I haven't been since I think about 2 years ago (end of my sr yr of hs). I heard that new roller coaster they have is awesome!

Do you mind if I friend you? Since we do seem to have alot in common and all.

Oh, mothers. Mine too. *sigh* My mother is terrified I'll meet some bloke and settle down OUTSIDE of Georgia. Like, she was concerned about this last summer when I wanted to go to an internship in NYC for ten weeks, she thought I'd find someone and get married in that time and that was still in the U.S. However, I've been working tirelessly to convince her a significant other is pretty much the last thing I want.

Ooh, yes, let's be friends! We can emote over school and living arrangements and Doctor Who together, it's a fantastic idea. :D *friends you*

My ex-boyfriend is from Honduras and lives there again now, and my mom is/was terrified I'd run away to live with him down there in his little third-world country and get kidnapped and shot in the head the first day I was there and she'd never see her baby again. She didn't say quite that much but I'm sure that's what she was thinking. One day she couldn't get ahold of me (called flipping FOURTEEN TIMES, my ringer was still on silent from going to a play the night before) and she said something of the like when I finally called her back. Paraphrased: "What am I supposed to tell the police if I can't find you?! For all I know you could've run off to Honduras with Carlos!!" and that was actually months before we ever started dating and were just friends at the time, lol. Fortunately, she has indeed chilled out a bit and in fact I don't even talk to her every day anymore, usually every other day now, which is far an improvement over the morning-noon-night from my freshman year, lol. Although, I think it is a large comfort to her that I now live with my cousin (even though my cousin's rarely actually at home...). But she definitely doesn't know what I get up to and I'm sure not gonna tell her, because she might, you know, freak out and have an aneurysm or something.

Ooh, I envy your not-living-at-homeness. I'm still living at home, and sometimes it's like I'm nine years old... I'll be out past ten with my best friend who my parents know well, and getting calls from BOTH of the 'rents demanding "Where are you? Do you realize what time it is? You have work in the morning! What time do you plan on being home?" and it's just ghastly and I wonder if saying "I am eighteen years old, and can do what I like" is quite as immature-sounding as I think it is. I think I'd move out, only I can't afford it. *sigh* After three years of working nearly full time and going to college full time, you'd think I'd be able to be treated like something resembling an adult?

Oh, I LOVE not living at home. I haven't lived at home since I started college (I lived in a dorm for 2 years) but I lived at home last summer and it was brutal! It was pretty much exactly what you said about your parents, although my mom did lighten up a bit eventually by letting me stay out for "special occasions" like friends' birthdays and things, as long as I called her like 4 or 5 times during the night. I have never been so glad to go back to school in my life after that summer though, lol.

I pretty much had to tell my mom that exact thing: "Look, I'm in college, I'm doing well, I don't get into trouble, I have a full scholarship, and I'm 18 years old. I'm an adult now. Chill out." EVENTUALLY she got it, but it took a while. There was lots of bickering in the meantime. It happens, parents don't want to let their babies go.

I dunno, I think they might have forgotten. I mean, they forgotten Mickey's mum was supposed to cry over his dead plastic body in the first episode when Rose was telling his life story in 2x05, so why not forget this?
Is Christopher signed for the Christmas special? Could they be keeping it a secret? *gets giddy despite herself*

THIS IS SO TRUE. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE NINE/ROSE SQUICK. THEY WERE SO CLEARLY MEANT TO BE RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING.

Anyway.

I think the Doctor was pretty much obsessed about every little thing about Rose. If anything, S3 has shown me just how MUCH he loved her. Oh, he LIKES Martha, he thinks she's a fabulous companion, but he isn't in love with her.

There was really this amazing connection between the Doctor and Rose right from the beginning. He showed her that there was more to the universe, she gave him something to cling to after the Time War. *EMOTES* *SQUISHES THEM TOGETHER*

Pretty spam! *hands you shiny gold star*

Yeah, I have the squick there too. He's just too old-looking? But that's just wtih the blatant shag-shipping. *snickers at newly-coined term* But as for them being best friends sort of in love? They so are.

I think the Doctor was pretty much obsessed about every little thing about Rose.

He so was. I think my favorite image of that is from The Impossible Planet, when they're sitting at the table talking about mortgages and black holes, and she's resting her face on her hand and looking up through the skylight, and he's just... gazing at her, like even though he's lost the TARDIS and has to get a mortgage and a car and possibly acquire 2.5 kids by some nefarious means, he's still pretty much okay because he can keep looking at Rose.

Can it possibly be healthy to love and adore two fictional people this much?

Pretty spam! *hands you shiny gold star*
